All of our instructors adhere to high standards of training and education.
In order to be eligible to teach at BALANCE instructors must have completed a pilates instructor certification program through a nationally recognized organization such as STOTT PILATES or the PhysicalMind Institute. These instructor training programs include hundreds of hours of professional study in the pilates method including lecture, supervised teaching, self-practice and observation hours, assistant teaching, and strict certification test-outs, which include both written and practical exams. Our instructors are fully certified or have fulfilled requirements to test out for certification within their first year of teaching at BALANCE.
Instructors at BALANCE complete annual continuing education with top instructors and instructor trainers in the pilates field.
Instructors at BALANCE are members of varying professional organizations including IDEA Health and Fitness Association, IHRSA, the Pilates Method Alliance, and others.
Kimber McQueen
Stott Pilates Instructor Trainer, Owner
Kimber McQueen is the Program Director and Owner of BALANCE. She has a BFA in Performance and Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University and a BA in Sociology from James Madison University. While rehabilitating a broken foot that prevented her from dancing, Kimber discovered pilates. She was instantly hooked.
In May of 1999, she received her certification in STOTT PILATES, one of the most highly respected and sought after certifications in the field of pilates. Later that year, she opened her first studio.
During her career, Kimber has logged over 10,000 teaching hours and that experience has resulted in the development of a clear and precise teaching style dedicated to helping her clients achieve measurable results. In 2004, Kimber was invited to become a STOTT PILATES Instructor Trainer.
In August of 2004, BALANCE was named the STOTT PILATES Certification Center of Virginia joining the distinguished ranks of only 27 facilities in the US with ability to train instructors in STOTT PILATES. BALANCE began its first series of certification courses in January of 2005 and to date Kimber has personally trained more than 5o instructors from all over Virginia.
Kimber also enjoys practicing Ashtanga and is an avid student of the Alexander Technique, a mind-body technique that improves posture, increases freedom of movement, and reduces physical tension.

Maria Enochs
Stott Pilates Trained Instructor
Maria Enochs graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a degree in Communications. While in college, she was first introduced to pilates and began practicing it regularly. After college, Maria moved to New York City to pursue a career in Real Estate. She then returned to Richmond a few years later and after searching for a new place to continue taking pilates, she found herself at Balance. She began taking classes at Balance, working on the Reformer, Cadillac, and Chair. Pilates offered her a way to become strong and build muscle without aggravating a pre-existing hip issue. Her interest in how pilates can help improve flexibility, help prevent joint injuries and the overall positive effects it has on the body, encouraged her to move forward with the certification process. After completing the STOTT PILATES reformer, mat and advanced mat training courses, she joined the Balance Pilates family and began teaching regularly.

Leigh Rose

Leigh Rose graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Economics. After graduating, she went into commercial banking. In 1995, she left banking to become a mother and she has three children ages 12, 11, and 7. Because of her passion for Pilates Leigh decided to return to the workforce as a Pilates instructor. She began her formal Pilates education at Balance in 2006. She wanted to do something that let her be physical and help people build strength, improve and ultimately correct muscular imbalances developed from repetitive activities or injuries. She has recently completed her course work at Balance to become a fully certified Stott Pilates instructor.
Her other passions include horseback riding and her horse, LeAnn, water skiing, wake boarding and playing with her silly kids.
